How many lime has your rose bush necessary?
The amount of lime you add to your roses depends on the type of soil and the acidity (pH value). Here are some guidelines:
- Light sandy soil: use about 50 grams of lime per rose bush per year.
- Heavy clay soil: up to 100 grams per bush per year, because this soil requires more lime.
- Your soil: at a low pH value (below 6), it is advisable to use a bit more lime.
Tips for lime use as element by rose nutrition
- When to apply: spread lime in early spring (March/April) and possibly in autumn (September/October).
- How to apply: sprinkle the lime around the base of the rose bush, but avoid direct contact with the stem to prevent burning.
- Watering: give water after spreading to allow the lime to be absorbed into the soil more quickly.
