Celestial at a glance
Rosa ‘Celestial’, also known as ‘Céleste’, bears a name that means ‘heavenly’. Its translucent, soft pink flowers suit that meaning beautifully. It is not known for certain who gave it this name, but it sounds just as refined as the rose looks.
This historic Alba rose has a long, partly hidden history. David Austin lists 1759, while Lens mentions older traces from the Low Countries, dating from before 1739. Its precise origin remains uncertain. What is certain is that Celestial belongs to the old garden roses cherished for generations.
The semi-double flowers open into graceful cups with visible golden-yellow stamens. Their strong, classic rose fragrance makes the abundant flowering in June and July especially appealing. The grey-green foliage also gives the vigorous shrub a calm appearance outside the flowering period. Celestial is also bee-friendly and tolerates partial shade: a beautiful pink garden rose for a romantic border or informal rose hedge.

Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
"Beautiful climbing rose, bloomed abundantly in the very first year! Well packaged and exactly what I expected based on the description. Belle Époque truly delivers top quality."
"The rose is well packaged and looks beautiful. Fast delivery, and the personal advice via email was very valuable — I wasn’t sure where to plant it."
"Amazing quality & service. I ordered two New Dawns and they are developing beautifully in the garden. Fast shipping from Aalsmeer to Belgium — would absolutely order again."
