James Brown® – a powerful rose with soul and character
The James Brown® rose is anything but ordinary. With its warm, deep shades of brown, rust, and copper, this rose radiates strength, courage, and originality. A rose with a distinct character — just like the legendary man it is named after.
Who was James Brown?
James Brown (1933–2006) was an iconic American musician, known as The Godfather of Soul. His music stood for energy, rhythm, feeling, and raw expression. He was innovative, headstrong, and left an indelible mark. Exactly those qualities are reflected in this rose: intense in color, full of personality, and impossible to ignore.
A rose with a story
James Brown® was developed by KAS 1924, a renowned Dutch rose house, under the guidance of the passionate breeder Dirk Alderdsen. His love for special colors and characterful roses is fully expressed in this variety. This is not a rose for the masses, but a conscious choice for enthusiasts seeking something unique.
Unique and exclusive at Belle Epoque
This special rose is available only in small quantities and exclusively as a garden rose at Belle Epoque. That makes James Brown® extra special: a true collector’s rose for connoisseurs and lovers of distinctive garden roses.
In the garden, James Brown® develops into a strong, characterful shrub. Give it time to settle, and you will be rewarded with flowers that can subtly vary in shade with each bloom — from warm chocolate brown to coppery red. It combines beautifully with soft sandy tones, cream, old pink, and deep burgundy colors.

Roses in pots
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.
Roses with bare roots
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.
Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
