Baronne Prevost at a glance
With Rosa ‘Baronne Prévost’, you bring the charm of a nineteenth-century rose garden home. This French rose was bred by Desprez and introduced in 1842. It belongs to the early repeat-flowering roses: historic shrub roses that bloom again after their first summer flowering. A significant step in the history of roses, as repeat flowering became increasingly important.
Her name means ‘Baroness Prévost’. According to the historical description, she was named after the sister of Monsieur Guénon, a friend of Desprez and an enthusiastic dahlia grower. A personal tribute from a time when breeders regularly named their finest flowers after people in their circle.
The large, richly filled flowers have a classic form: the petals are arranged in quarters around a small button-shaped centre. Their pink colour and powerful old rose fragrance give Baronne Prévost her romantic character. The sturdy, upright shrub fits beautifully in a sunny border, where you can enjoy repeated flowering from summer through autumn. A wonderful choice for lovers of fragrant historic garden roses.
Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
