Japanese Rose BI – Kibō is a strong and expressive Japanese rose with a striking play of colors. Its flowers combine strawberry red with a bright yellow reverse, creating a warm, lively contrast. This is a rose that radiates energy and at the same time brings optimism and cheerfulness to the garden.

Kibō is distinctive, but never coarse. It has character and balance.

The meaning of the name

Kibō (希望) means Hope in Japanese. The name symbolizes trust, future, and positivity. You can immediately see that feeling reflected in this rose: color, strength, and liveliness come together in one flower.

Within the Japanese Rose BI selection, Kibō stands for looking ahead and zest for life.

Japanese origin & breeding

Kibō was bred by Seizo Suzuki in Japan, before 1985.
In 1986, it was introduced in Japan by Keisei Rose Nurseries under the name Kibō, and in Europe by Meilland et Cie.

Origin:

  • Liberty Bell™ × Kagayaki

This combination explains its strong color contrast, large flowers, and reliable growth.

Flower & blooming

  • Flower color: red with yellow reverse
(also described as rouge fraise & jaune citron)

  • Flower shape: very large and full (up to ±30 petals)

  • Diameter: approx. 12–13 cm

  • Blooming: in waves throughout the season

Despite its floribunda background, Kibō has a flower size reminiscent of hybrid tea roses, which makes it extra striking.

Japanese Rose BI – Kibō grows into a strong, well-branched shrub.

  • Height: approx. 80–120 cm

  • Type: floribunda

  • Location: sunny

  • Use: borders, rose beds, color accents

Roses in pots

A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.

Roses with bare roots

Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.

At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.

Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
