Roald Dahl – master of imagination

Roald Dahl – meester van de verbeelding

Some writers tell a story.
Roald Dahl built entire worlds.

Born in 1916 in Wales, the son of Norwegian parents, he grew into one of the most beloved children’s authors of all time. His childhood – with strict boarding schools and impactful events – later inspired many of his stories.

During World War II, he was a pilot in the Royal Air Force. After a serious plane crash, he began writing. First short stories for adults, later children’s books. That’s where he found his true voice.

Imagination with an edge

Dahl dared to write differently. His books are full of quirky adults, clever children, and humor that is sometimes a bit dark – but always playful.

Famous titles include:

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  • Matilda
  • The BFG

In his stories, children often triumph over injustice. He gave young readers courage, imagination, and a sense of justice. His language is lively, vivid, and sometimes wonderfully exaggerated. That’s exactly what makes his work timeless.

A name that keeps blooming

Roald Dahl passed away in 1990, but his stories are still read, filmed, and performed worldwide. His name stands for imagination, warmth, and a touch of stubbornness.

Maybe that’s also why a rose was named after him. The warm apricot color reminds one of the golden glow of a chocolate factory. The subtle fruity scent has something playful and inviting. And the healthy, rounded growth reflects his strong, steadfast character.

On our website you will find the Roald Dahl® rose – a flower with a story. Just like his books, it brings warmth, imagination, and a smile to your garden.
