Care & Plants
Plant bare root roses between October and April, and potted roses throughout the year, as long as it is frost-free. Choose a sunny to partially shaded spot with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Dig a spacious planting hole, mix the soil with compost, and ensure that the graft union (swelling) is just below the ground. Maintain a planting distance of about 50-60 cm for optimal growth.
Prune the Chippendale rose in early spring, as soon as the worst frost has passed. Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches and cut back the remaining branches to 3-5 buds. This encourages new growth and abundant flowering. Spent flowers can be removed throughout the season to promote continuous blooming.
Water the Chippendale rose regularly during dry periods, especially in the first year after planting. Fertilize the plant in spring and after the first bloom with special rose fertilizer for abundant flowering and strong growth. A mulch layer of compost or organic material helps retain moisture and nourish the soil.
