About St. Swithun (Auswith)

The David Austin rose St. Swithun (Auswith) is a true ode to romance and elegance, straight from the heart of our nursery. This majestic English rose enchants with exceptionally large, richly filled flowers, each with more than 120 delicate petals gracefully arranged around a characteristic central button eye. The color starts soft pink in the center and subtly fades to a refined, lighter pink shade at the edges, a visual feast that lasts throughout summer and autumn. The intense, pure myrrh fragrance adds a classic and unforgettable scent to your garden, a fragrance that invites you to dream.

Thanks to its vigorous growth and reliable repeat flowering, the St. Swithun rose is remarkably versatile. Whether you plant it as an impressive, tall shrub that draws attention in a border, or as an elegant climber that gracefully winds up a wall, pergola, or fence; this rose feels at home everywhere. It is the perfect choice for cottage gardens, romantic landscapes, or as a solitary eye-catcher that adds structure and refinement to any outdoor space. Its robust character guarantees a lush bloom that returns season after season.

At Belle Époque Rose Nursery in Aalsmeer, you buy the Rosa St. Swithun directly from the grower. With over 40 years of family experience in growing roses, we guarantee top quality, passion, and craftsmanship. Each rose is cultivated with the utmost care and sustainable methods, ensuring you receive a healthy, strong plant ready to enrich your garden. Choose the expertise of Belle Époque and experience the difference of a rose raised with love.

Care & Plants
Plant the St. Swithun in a pot all year round, except during frost. Bare-root roses should be planted from October to April. Prepare a spacious planting hole with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil and place the graft union (the swelling) just below ground level. Make sure to allow enough space for growth.
Prune the rose in early spring (March) by removing dead, weak, or crossing wood. If it is a shrub, cut the branches back to 3-5 buds; if it is a climber, train the main branches and prune the side branches back. Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage the formation of new buds.
Water the St. Swithun regularly, especially during dry periods and throughout the first year after planting. Fertilize in early spring and after the first bloom with a specific rose fertilizer for optimal growth and flowering. A mulch layer around the base helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
