Princess Lieve is a rose with a story. Not a chance find, but the result of passion, patience, and love for the craft.

This special rose is bred in Aalsmeer, by a small family business that crosses roses as a hobby, not for mass production. For Princess Lieve, carefully Japanese and German rose lines were combined, following the Japanese method of breeding: attention to flower shape, balance, refinement, and feeling.

The meaning of the name

Lieve is a girl’s name in the Netherlands – rare, gentle, and elegant. At the same time, lieve in English means “dear”: cherished, beloved. Exactly that feeling this rose evokes. Princess Lieve is not a rose you pick quickly, but one that touches you.

Japanese refinement in flower shape

The flower shape of Princess Lieve is truly special. Perfectly built, elegant and balanced, with an almost artistic appearance. Her scent is light and subtle, present without overpowering. This makes her suitable both for the garden and for use in bouquets.

This is a rose you keep looking at – with every bloom anew.

From shrub rose to cut rose

At Belle Epoque, Princess Lieve is currently available in small quantities as a shrub rose. At the same time, she is also grown in Aalsmeer as a cut rose, where her form and quality are promising.

Internationally, Princess Lieve is being tested in Colombia and Kenya. It is expected that she will become available later this year as a cut rose from Colombia, and that she will also be introduced as a garden rose in the United States. A rose clearly ready for a larger stage, yet retaining her exclusive character.

Roses in pots

A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.

Roses with bare roots

Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.

At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.

Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
