Japanese Rose BI – Sakuragi is a charming and refined Japanese rose with a light, natural appearance. Its simple flowers and soft colors immediately evoke spring blossoms – airy, pure, and elegant.
Sakuragi is not a rose of grand gestures, but one that touches you through its subtlety. That is exactly what makes it so special.
The meaning of the name
Sakuragi (桜木) means Cherry Blossom Tree. In Japan, the cherry blossom is a symbol of transience, beauty, and celebrating the moment. This philosophy is perfectly reflected in this rose: light, open, and natural in form.
Japanese origin & breeding
Sakuragi was bred by Hiroshi Ueyama in Japan and introduced in 1996.
The rose belongs to the polyantha / shrub rose type, known for its rich bloom and natural growth habit.
Origin:
-
Seed parent: Baby Carol × unknown seedling
-
Pollen parent: unknown seedling
A classic Japanese approach, where appearance and garden value are more important than extreme flower size.
Flower & scent
-
Flower color: soft pink with white heart and yellow stamens
-
Flower shape: single (4–8 petals), in small clusters
-
Scent: light and subtle
-
Blooming: in waves throughout the season
The open flower shape makes Sakuragi attractive to insects and gives it an almost wild, natural look.
Growth & use in the garden
Sakuragi grows into a compact, bushy shrub and is therefore widely usable.
-
Height: up to approx. 100 cm
-
Growth habit: polyantha / shrub rose
-
Use: borders, bed planting, natural gardens, low hedges
Because of its rich cluster bloom and modest size, Sakuragi is also very suitable for smaller gardens.
Japanese Rose BI – beauty in simplicity
This rose is part of the Japanese Rose BI selection by Belle Epoque.
BI (美) here stands for beauty in simplicity: open flowers, natural shapes, and harmony in the garden.

Roses in pots
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.
Roses with bare roots
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.
Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
