Buying bare-root roses at Belle Epoque: The planting season

At Belle Epoque, we offer the largest range of bare-root roses, specially selected for the garden lover seeking quality and durability. These roses are available from late October to late April, the planting season to prepare your garden for a beautifully blooming spring. Our bare-root roses are only available online and are carefully packed and delivered by post.

      Why choose bare-root roses?

Bare-root roses offer a unique opportunity to plant during the roses’ dormant season. These roses are in a resting state, without soil around their roots, which means they are easy to handle and will quickly take root once planted. This is the best time of year to select the roses you want in your garden.

      Planting advice for bare-root roses

To achieve the best results with your bare-root roses, follow our simple step-by-step plan:

      1. Let the rose roots soak in a bucket of water for about 2 hours before planting them in the ground, so they are well hydrated.
      2. Loosen the soil with a spade and dig a planting hole wide enough to lay the roots freely without bending them. The graft union (where the main side shoots start on the root) should be about 5 cm below the ground. This protects the rose from frost and prevents unwanted growth.
      3. Add a few handfuls of garden soil or rose soil to the planting hole and place the rose in it. Make sure the roots are well spread out in the hole.
      4. Press the soil firmly with your foot so the roots make good contact with the earth and the plant stands stable.
      5. Give the rose enough water after planting, and repeat this during dry periods, except when it freezes.

With these steps, you create a solid foundation for healthy and blooming roses that will last for years.
