The Rosa ‘Mutabilis’ is more than just a rose; it is a living work of art, a timeless classic that proudly carries the nickname "The Butterfly Rose." This rare Chinese shrub rose, with its light fresh fragrance, enchants with a unique color display: the single flowers open soft amber yellow, elegantly transform to copper pink, and end in a deep crimson red. This dynamic scene of changing shades creates a continuous painting in your garden, as if butterflies are landing and taking off again.

With its graceful, open growth habit and striking bronze-colored young leaves, the ‘Mutabilis’ is a majestic presence that comes into its own as a solitary plant, in a generous border, or as part of an informal hedge. Its abundant bloom from May to October not only attracts the attention of every garden lover but is also a magnet for bees and butterflies. This strong, healthy rose only requires a sunny, sheltered spot to show its full potential.

At Belle Époque Rose Nursery in Aalsmeer, you buy the Rosa ‘Mutabilis’ directly from the grower. With more than 40 years of expertise and a deep passion for rare and historic roses, we guarantee you a healthy, vigorous plant cultivated with love and expertise. Choose the sustainable quality of a family business and bring a touch of mystique and timeless beauty to your garden with this special rose.

Roses in pots

A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.

Roses with bare roots

Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.

At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.

Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
