Great Dixter transplanting trowel – precision tool for every gardener
The Great Dixter transplanting trowel from Sneeboer & Zn is an indispensable piece of garden tool for those who want to work with care and precision in the garden. This small spade was specially designed in collaboration with the famous British gardener Christopher Lloyd, known for the gardens of Great Dixter in East Sussex. His preference was for a narrow, sturdy, and deep spade, with which you can effortlessly plant among closely spaced flowers and shrubs.
The sharp, hand-forged blade easily penetrates clayey or compacted soil, making it ideal for making planting holes, transplanting seedlings, and cutting through roots. The blade is slightly curved, so it holds more earth and allows you to work more accurately. The ergonomic wooden handle provides a comfortable grip and optimal power transfer.
Why this will become your favourite small spade:
- Hand-forged from stainless steel
- Narrow and deep blade (approx. 5 cm wide, 16 cm long)
- Perfect for planting in full flower beds
- FSC-certified wooden handle (ash wood or cherry wood)
- Ideal for precision work, transplanting, and weeding
- Designed at the request of Christopher Lloyd (Great Dixter)

Sneeboer & Zn is a Dutch family business that has been hand-forging high-quality garden tools since 1913. Each piece is the result of craftsmanship, durability, and attention to detail. The tools are made to last a lifetime – or even longer.

Roses in pots
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.
Roses with bare roots
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.
Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
