Rose food: lime as essential support for strong roses
Roses need the right nutrition to bloom profusely and stay healthy. Lime Lime is an important part of a balanced rose fertilizer, as it helps regulate soil pH and improve nutrient absorption. Discover how lime strengthens your roses and provides long-term support.
How much lime do your roses need?
The amount of lime you apply depends on the soil type and its acidity (pH level). Here are a few guidelines:
-
Light sandy soil: approximately 50 grams of lime per rose bush per year.
-
Heavy clay soil: up to 100 grams per bush per year, because clay requires more lime.
-
Acidic soil: if the pH value is low (below 6) you may add some extra lime.
With a package of 900 grams you can up to 15 rose bushes provided with the correct amount of lime every year.
Tips for using lime as part of rose nutrition
-
When to administer: Sprinkle lime in early spring (March/April) and possibly again in the autumn (September/October).
-
How to apply: Distribute the lime evenly around the base of the shrub, but avoid direct contact with the trunk.
-
Watering: water after spreading so that the lime is absorbed into the soil more quickly.

Roses in a pot
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for roots to develop. This makes the potted rose ideal for year-round planting, especially May to October.
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants that are delivered without pots or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in the ground. The best time to plant a root rose is autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature is mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare root roses from November to AprilThanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and floriferous shrubs or climbing roses.
