The man behind Rosa 'Groei & Bloei' (Syn. Paragon) is the breeder Marco Braun, who lives in Alphen aan den Rijn. Marco has already introduced several dozen new roses to the market; from small shrub roses and large and small-flowered bush roses to ramblers (climbing roses). And this is while he has only been breeding roses for thirteen years. You should keep in mind that it takes at least seven years after a cross before a new rose comes to market.
The special thing about Rosa 'Groei & Bloei' is that the plant is disease-free, grows easily, and blooms very abundantly. And it is the first rambler that continues to bloom, according to Marco. At the end of June, the first flowers appear, by mid-July the rose is in full bloom, and in August most of the flowers have faded. While other climbing roses are done blooming by then, a second bloom follows in September and October. Marco: "And the flowers also smell wonderful, a bit lemon-fresh."
The most special thing about the Groei & Bloei rose:
I find it remarkable that it stays beautiful for a long time. Even after a rain shower, the flowers remain pure white; they do not discolor. This rose can withstand moisture very well. In the Netherlands, that is quite nice!
The half-filled, white flowers are clustered together in large bunches. Thanks to the striking yellow stamens, they are very expressive. Marco says that they are real bee magnets:
"You don't know what you're seeing. I have a specimen in my community garden, and they really buzz around it." As a cherry on top, Rosa gets beautifully orange-red colored buds from 'Groei & Bloei'. After two years, the plant is about 2 meters tall. The rambler is, according to Marco, perfectly suitable for covering a bare wall.
