Great Dixter Transplanting Spade – Precision Tool for Every Gardener

The Great Dixter transplanting spade from Sneeboer & Zn is an indispensable piece of gardening equipment for those who want to work with care and precision in the garden. This spade was specially designed in collaboration with the famous British gardener Christopher Lloyd, known from the gardens of Great Dixter in East Sussex. His preference was for a narrow, sturdy and deep spade, with which you can effortlessly plant between closely spaced flowers and shrubs.

The sharp, hand-forged blade easily penetrates clayey or compact soil, making it ideal for making planting holes, transplanting seedlings, and cutting through roots. The blade is slightly curved, so it holds more soil and allows you to work more accurately. The ergonomic wooden handle ensures a comfortable grip and optimal power transfer.

Why this will become your favorite spade:

  • Hand-forged from stainless steel
  • Narrow and deep blade (approx. 5 cm wide, 16 cm long)
  • Perfect for planting in full borders
  • FSC-certified wooden handle (ash or cherry wood)
  • Ideal for precision work, transplanting and weeding
  • Designed at the request of Christopher Lloyd (Great Dixter)

Roses in Pots

A potted rose is a rose plant that has been pre-grown in a pot and comes with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly into the garden or a larger container — no need to wait for new root growth. This makes potted roses ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May to October.

Bare Root Roses

Bare root roses are rose plants supplied without soil or pots. These roses are in their dormant stage and can be planted directly into the ground. The best time to plant bare root roses is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and temperatures are mild.

At Belle Epoque, we supply bare root roses from November to April. Thanks to their strong root systems and the right planting conditions, these roses quickly grow into healthy, vigorous shrubs or climbing roses with abundant blooms.

Products are shipped weekly on Mondays & Shipped directly from the nursery on Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimize our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
