Belle Isis (Gallica) at a glance
Rosa ‘Belle Isis’ was bred by the Belgian rose breeder Louis-Joseph-Ghislain Parmentier and is dated to 1845. Her name refers to Isis, the Egyptian goddess associated, among other things, with motherhood and fertility. Belle Isis means ‘beautiful Isis’: an elegant name for this soft pink historic rose.
Her most important contribution to rose history came more than a century later. David Austin used Belle Isis as one of the parents of ‘Constance Spry’, his first English rose, introduced in 1961. In doing so, this old Gallica rose helped lay the foundation for the beloved English roses. Her distinctive myrrh fragrance can also be found in Constance Spry.
Belle Isis bears small, fully double flowers in a pure pink shade, a color that is unusual within the Gallica group. She blooms once in summer and, thanks to her modest size, fits beautifully in a smaller garden. Give her a place in a romantic border, where you can admire her flowers up close and discover her fragrance. A historic garden rose with a surprisingly significant influence.
Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
"Beautiful climbing rose, bloomed abundantly in the very first year! Well packaged and exactly what I expected based on the description. Belle Époque truly delivers top quality."
"The rose is well packaged and looks beautiful. Fast delivery, and the personal advice via email was very valuable — I wasn’t sure where to plant it."
