Planting roses in the fall

Autumn is traditionally the season for planting roses. Freshly harvested roses are most readily available at rose nurseries, and planting them before the first frost yields the best results.

Bare root roses

A rose is what's called a biennial. After the second year, we harvest the roses from the field. The roses are pruned to height, lifted, rinsed with water, and stored damp in a cool place. Because the rose doesn't have a root ball, we call it bare-root roses. Plant our beautiful garden roses or the growth and bloom rose now and enjoy these flowering toppers for years to come!

Advantages

Planting roses in the fall has the advantage that the soil is still warm, allowing the roots to establish themselves before winter. This means the rose will sprout earlier in the spring and be better protected from frost. The selection of special and rare rose varieties is also at its greatest during this period, and bare-root roses are less expensive than potted roses.
