Step back in time and discover the true craftsmanship of rose growing during a special visit to one of Aalsmeer's oldest rose nurseries.
On Monday, April 20, 2025 Belle Epoque invites you to an inspiring morning full of fragrance, knowledge and stories about the craft of the rose.

We start at 10:00 am at Belle Epoque, at Rietwijkeroordweg 28 in Aalsmeer, where we enjoy coffee and snacks together.
To 10:30 am we leave for the historic nursery Fa. D. Alderden Wzn. & Zn., a family business that has been growing roses for over a hundred years – from generation to generation.

There we are received by Dirk Alderden, a retired but still enthusiastic rose grower.
Dirk is not only a master at identifying pests, caring for roses and maintaining natural balance, but also my personal mentor and companion in the trade.
I currently work with Dirk on the breeding of new rose varieties the old-fashioned way – with patience, manual work and, where possible, with the help of bees.

With Dirk, you literally step into history. No high-tech greenhouses, but roses still grown in the open ground, with love, patience, and attention to fragrance and color. During the tour, he explains traditional cultivation methods, shows unique rose varieties, and shares his passion for the craft that has made Aalsmeer so great.

In addition, we pay attention to the pruning roses in your own greenhouse or cutting garden – how to get strong shoots, stimulate flowering, and make roses suitable for the vase.

This morning is a unique opportunity to experience how roses were once grown – honestly, traditionally and with respect for nature.
Great fun for anyone with their own greenhouse or cutting garden, and for anyone who dreams of growing roses for a vase.
