About The Poet's Wife (Auswhirl) (standard form)

The Rosa ‘The Poet’s Wife’ standard rose is a radiant jewel from the David Austin collection, which with its intensely yellow, fully double flowers immediately brings light and joy to your garden. This English rose enchants with a beautiful color spectrum: the deep yellow buds open into rich, rounded flowers whose outer petals subtly fade to softer shades. What truly makes it unique is the delightful, powerful lemon scent that is fresh and sweet, becoming more intense as the flower matures. A true treat for the senses, surrounded by glossy dark green leaves that perfectly accentuate the sunny flowers.

With an elegant stem height of 90 cm, ‘The Poet’s Wife’ creates a compact, bushy crown that effortlessly adds height and brightness to any outdoor space. It is a stunning eye-catcher in borders, as a solitary plant in a smaller garden, or as an atmospheric addition in a pot on your terrace or balcony. Its repeat-flowering nature, from May well into October, ensures months of an explosion of color and fragrance. Combine it with the purple hues of lavender, fresh white perennials, or soft pink roses for a harmonious and irresistible summer ensemble.

Choosing a rose from Belle Époque Rose Nursery means choosing more than 40 years of family expertise and passion. As specialists in David Austin roses, we guarantee strong, healthy plants that are sustainably cultivated with care and craftsmanship in our nursery in Aalsmeer. Each ‘The Poet’s Wife’ standard rose is personally selected for its exceptional fragrance, color, and quality, so you are assured years of garden pleasure with a rose lovingly grown, directly from the grower.

Care & Plants
The standard rose 'The Poet's Wife' in a pot can be planted all year round, as long as it does not freeze. Choose a sunny location with well-draining, fertile soil. Dig a spacious planting hole, mix the soil with compost, and plant the rose at the same depth as it was in the pot. Gently press the soil down and water generously immediately.
Prune the standard rose annually in early spring (March), before new growth begins. Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches and cut back the remaining shoots to 3-5 buds. This encourages a compact crown and abundant flowering.
Water the standard rose regularly, especially during dry periods and in the initial phase after planting. Fertilize in early spring with organic rose fertilizer and repeat this in July for optimal blooming. A mulch layer around the stem helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
