The 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' is more than a rose; it is a legend, a tribute to the English rose artistry of David Austin. Its deep crimson, satin-like flowers, which bloom lavishly from June to October, emit an intoxicating, classic rose fragrance that delights the senses. Although it is no longer in production, this rose, with its robust character and stunning bloom, remains an icon, symbolizing the timeless beauty and passion sought by every rose lover.

Originally cherished as a vigorous shrub rose up to 120 cm, or as an elegant climbing rose that could reach up to 3 meters high, the 'Tess' brought life and color to pergolas, walls, and borders. Its healthy growth and glossy foliage made it a favorite for creating romantic, lush garden corners. Although this specific variety is no longer available, Belle Époque offers a carefully selected range of English roses that can bring the same grandeur and fragrance to your garden.

For over 40 years, generation after generation, we at Belle Époque Rose Nursery in Aalsmeer have been growing the most beautiful roses with passion and expertise. Our sustainable cultivation methods guarantee healthy, bloom-rich plants that come directly from the nursery to your garden. While the 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' remains a historic gem, we invite you to discover the excellent quality and rich heritage of our current collection of English roses, grown with the same love and expertise.

Roses in pots

A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.

Roses with bare roots

Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.

At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.

Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
