About Japanese Rose BI – Asagumo (Morning Cloud) (NEW 2026)

Japanese Rose BI – Asagumo is an elegant and impressive Japanese rose with a soft, warm appearance. Its large flowers combine yellow with subtle pink edges, creating an almost luminous effect—as if touched by the first light of morning.

Asagumo effortlessly combines refinement and strength, making it a perfect addition to Belle Epoque’s exclusive Japanese collection.

The meaning of the name

Asagumo (朝雲) means Morning Cloud. In Japanese poetry, this image represents a new beginning, softness, and fleeting beauty. This symbolism can be seen in the flower: large and full, yet never heavy; elegant and balanced.

Japanese origins & breeding

Asagumo was bred by Seizo Suzuki in Japan before 1968. The rose was introduced in Japan under the name Oriental Dawn and is the result of a remarkable cross between:

  • Peace (hybrid tea, Meilland 1935)

  • × a seedling of Charleston® (floribunda, Meilland 1963)

This heritage explains its rich flower form, color variation, and vigorous growth.

Flower & fragrance

  • Flower color: soft yellow with a pink edge

  • Flower form: very large and full, with 26–40 petals

  • Diameter: approximately 12–13 cm

  • Fragrance: mild to clearly noticeable

  • Blooming: in waves throughout the season

Asagumo blooms abundantly and repeatedly, while retaining its elegant shape even when fully open.

Growth & use in the garden

Asagumo is a hybrid tea rose with an upright growth habit.

  • Height: up to approximately 150 cm

  • Position: sunny

  • Use: as a solitary plant, in borders, or as a statement rose

In spring, it is important to remove old, dead, or crossing branches. In colder areas, it can be pruned back somewhat more severely. Protection from late spring frosts is recommended.

Japanese Rose BI – beauty as a selection criterion

This rose is part of Belle Epoque’s Japanese Rose BI selection.
BI (美) means beauty in Japanese and represents roses selected for balance, flower structure, and emotion—not for mass production or speed.

Exclusive to Belle Epoque – new collection 2026

Japanese Rose BI – Asagumo is available exclusively from Belle Epoque and is part of the new Japanese garden rose collection 2026. A unique rose for enthusiasts and collectors who consciously choose quality and character.

Wouter
