Celsiana at a glance
Rosa ‘Celsiana’ brings the charm of old rose gardens to life. This historic Damask rose dates back to around 1750. Its original breeder is unknown, but according to the history described by Lens, it may have come from the Low Countries. A rose with possibly Dutch or Belgian roots, admired for centuries.
Its name pays tribute to Jacques-Martin Cels, the French nurseryman who introduced it in France as ‘Belle Couronnée’. The name Celsiana is associated with the descriptions by Claude-Antoine Thory, who provided the text for Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s famous rose illustrations. Thus, the history of nurseries and botanical art come together in a single rose.
The large, semi-double flowers appear in small clusters. They open soft pink and fade to almost white, with golden-yellow stamens as a radiant centre. Their rich old-rose fragrance makes the single summer flowering all the more special. With its graceful growth and grey-green foliage, Celsiana is a beautiful fit for a romantic border or informal rose hedge. Bees also know how to find its open flowers
Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
"Beautiful climbing rose, bloomed abundantly in the very first year! Well packaged and exactly what I expected based on the description. Belle Époque truly delivers top quality."
"The rose is well packaged and looks beautiful. Fast delivery, and the personal advice via email was very valuable — I wasn’t sure where to plant it."
