Care & Plants
Plant the rose in the fall (October-April) as bare root, or year-round from a pot, provided the ground is not frozen. Choose a spot with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil and enough sunlight. Dig a spacious planting hole, make sure the graft union is just below the soil surface, and water generously after planting.
Prune 'Wisley 2008' in early spring, around March, when the worst frost has passed. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and shorten the remaining shoots to 3-5 buds above the ground to maintain a compact and flowering-rich shrub. Regularly cut away spent flowers to encourage the formation of new buds and extend the blooming period.
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season and during flowering. Fertilize in early spring and after the first bloom with special rose fertilizer for abundant blooms and healthy growth. A mulch layer of compost or organic material helps keep the soil moist and nutritious.
