About The Pilgrim (Auswalker) (XL Climbing Rose)

Be enchanted by the timeless elegance of 'The Pilgrim,' a beautiful creation by David Austin that enriches your garden with its romantic character. This XL climbing rose opens medium-sized, soft yellow flowers subtly enhanced with a touch of apricot, a color palette reminiscent of English country gardens. The strong, classic rose fragrance envelops your outdoor space from early summer to late autumn, and its repeat-flowering nature ensures a continuous flow of beauty. Awarded the prestigious Henry Edland Medal in 1992, 'The Pilgrim' is not only a feast for the eyes but also an ecologically valuable asset that attracts bees and butterflies.

'The Pilgrim' excels as a low climbing rose, gracefully trained against a sunny wall, along a pergola, or over a fence, where its lush bloom fully comes into its own. Also as a large, bushy shrub rose in borders or as a solitary showpiece in a classic or cottage-style garden, it makes an unforgettable impression. The healthy, vigorous growth and good disease resistance make it a reliable and beloved choice for both experienced and novice gardeners. Moreover, the flowers are excellent as cut roses, allowing you to enjoy their charm indoors as well.

Choose the superior quality of Belle Époque Rose Nursery. With over 40 years of experience, we cultivate the most beautiful roses in Aalsmeer with passion and expertise, directly from the nursery to your garden. Our sustainable cultivation methods guarantee healthy, vigorous plants ready to transform your outdoor space. Bring home the award-winning beauty and unforgettable fragrance of 'The Pilgrim' and enjoy a piece of English romance, grown with Dutch precision.

Care & Plants
Plant 'The Pilgrim' in the fall (bare root) or throughout the year (in a pot) in a sunny spot with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Dig a spacious planting hole, place the graft union just below the soil surface, and water generously after planting. Maintain a planting distance of 60-90 cm.
Prune 'The Pilgrim' in late winter or early spring by removing dead or weak branches and cutting back main branches for a nice shape. Remove faded flowers throughout the season to encourage continuous blooming.
Water regularly, especially during dry periods and after planting. Fertilize in early spring with organic rose fertilizer to promote blooming and vitality.

Forty years of nothing but roses

Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
