About James L. Austin (Auspike)

Immerse your garden in the romance of the English cottage garden with Rosa 'James L. Austin' (Auspike). This breathtaking David Austin rose enchants with its lush, quarter-shaped flowers, wrapped in a warm purple to lilac hue. The soft, delicate fragrance envelops you with a touch of nostalgia, while the classic beauty of each full bloom radiates timeless elegance that captures every gaze.

With its strong, bushy growth habit and repeat-flowering character, 'James L. Austin' is a versatile addition to various garden styles. From a prominent spot as a solitary eye-catcher to an atmospheric addition in borders, flower beds, or as part of a fragrant rose hedge; this medium-sized shrub rose (100-150 cm) provides months of continuous floral splendor from May well into autumn.

At Belle Époque Rose Nursery in Aalsmeer, you buy Rosa 'James L. Austin' directly from the grower. With over 40 years of expertise and a passion for sustainable cultivation, we guarantee you a healthy, strong rose plant lovingly grown and ready to enrich your garden with its unparalleled charm.

Care & Plants
Plant the James L. Austin in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, enriched with compost or rose potting soil. Ensure sufficient planting distance (about 60-80 cm) if you are planting multiple roses. Place the root collar, the swelling between root and stem, just below ground level for optimal growth.
Prune the James L. Austin in early spring, around March, when the worst frost has passed. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing wood and cut back the remaining branches to 3-5 buds above the ground. This promotes healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Water the James L. Austin regularly during dry periods, especially in the first year after planting. Fertilize the rose in spring and again in summer with a special organic rose fertilizer to encourage abundant blooming. A layer of mulch helps keep the soil moist and fertile.
