About Japanese Rose BI – Seika (Olympic Torch)

Japanese Rose BI – Seika is a rose with strength, movement, and symbolism. Its large, high-centered flowers combine deep red with a white-turned reverse, creating a dynamic play of colors. This is a rose that radiates energy and immediately commands presence in the garden.

Not refined by softness, but by shape, contrast, and precision.

The meaning of the name

Seika (セイカ / Sei-Ka) is used here as the Japanese name for the Olympic Torch – the Olympic flame. A powerful symbol of fire, connection, and progress.
The name perfectly suits the character of this rose: intense, proud, and purposeful.

Within the Japanese Rose BI selection, Seika stands for energy and movement.

Japanese origin & breeding

Seika was bred by Seizo Suzuki in Japan in 1966.
Internationally, the rose was introduced under the name Olympic Torch and became a valued exhibition rose.

Origin:

  • Rose Gaujard® × Crimson Glory (Kordes, 1935)

This classic combination explains the powerful color, large flower, and distinctive shape.

Flower & bloom

  • Flower color: red with white reverse

  • Flower shape: very large, high-centered, full (35–40 petals)

  • Diameter: approx. 12–13 cm

  • Scent: none

  • Bloom: in waves throughout the season

The flower shape is classic hybrid tea: tight, elegant, and very suitable as a showstopper.

Growth & garden use

Japanese Rose BI – Seika grows into a sturdy, upright shrub.

  • Height: approx. 100–120 cm

  • Type: hybrid tea rose

  • Location: sunny

  • Use: solitary, rose beds, classic gardens

Because of its strong stems and flower shape, Seika is also visually very suitable as a garden rose with a cut-flower appearance.

Japanese Rose BI – strength within beauty

Seika is part of the Japanese Rose BI selection from Belle Epoque.
BI (美) stands for beauty in the Japanese sense: not only soft or lovely, but also powerful, purposeful, and clear.

Seika shows that beauty can also have energy.

Exclusive at Belle Epoque – new 2026 collection

Japanese Rose BI – Seika (Olympic Torch) is exclusively available at Belle Epoque and is part of the new Japanese garden rose collection 2026. A unique rose for lovers of powerful, classic Japanese breeding.
