Great tit nest box – a natural helper for your rose garden
Hanging a nest box in your garden is not only a beautiful way to welcome birds, it also has direct benefits for your plants. This handmade great tit nest box is the first product in our collaboration with the woodworking workshop of GewoonDoen, a social enterprise through Ons Tweede Thuis. Each nest box is made with care and attention to sustainability.
Why place a nest box for great tits?
The great tit is a common bird in Dutch gardens. During the breeding season – from March onwards – this bird looks for a safe place to build a nest. With this nest box, you provide great tits a sheltered spot to breed, which is not only good for biodiversity in your garden but also for your roses.
Great tits help keep your roses healthy
One of the favorite meals of a great tit? Caterpillars, aphids, and other insects that can damage your rose bushes. By encouraging a great tit to nest in your garden, you naturally help maintain balance and reduce the use of pesticides. This keeps your roses – from shrub roses to climbing roses – strong and healthy.
Features of the nest box:
- Made from circular wood
- Suitable for great tits, blue tits, and other small garden birds
- Sturdy hanging hook
- Opening door for easy cleaning after the breeding season
- Handmade in collaboration with GewoonDoen Houtwerkplaats

Roses in pots
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.
Roses with bare roots
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.
Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
