About Thomas A. Beckett (Auswinston)

The Thomas A. Beckett (Auswinston) is a masterpiece by David Austin, a rose that enchants the senses with its intensely deep red, velvety flowers and rich, classic rose fragrance. This lush shrub rose, with its deeply cupped, later rosette-shaped blooms, exudes a timeless elegance that enriches any garden. It is an ode to the power and beauty of nature, a delight to see and smell, from early summer well into autumn.

With its bushy and compact growth of about 1 to 1.5 meters tall, the Thomas A. Beckett is versatile. It shines beautifully as a solitary showpiece but also feels at home in borders, mixed plantings, or even in a large pot on your terrace. This rose combines aesthetics with resilience: it is robust, well resistant to various weather conditions, and surprisingly easy to maintain, making it an asset for both classic English gardens and modern designs.

Choose the Thomas A. Beckett and bring a piece of Belle Époque craftsmanship into your home. As a family business with over 40 years of experience in Aalsmeer, we grow our roses with unmatched passion and sustainable methods. You buy directly from the grower, guaranteeing top quality, vitality, and the best start for your new garden jewel. Trust our expertise and enjoy roses lovingly nurtured.

Care & Plants
Plant the Thomas A. Beckett rose in a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Ensure the soil is nutritious and well-draining. Plant bare-root roses between October and April, and potted roses throughout the year, placing the graft union just below ground level.
Prune the Thomas A. Beckett rose annually in early spring (February/March), once the worst frost has passed. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and shorten the remaining branches to 3-5 buds. By regularly removing spent flowers, you encourage the formation of new buds and extend the blooming period.
Water the Thomas A. Beckett rose regularly, especially during dry periods and in the first growing season. For rich blooms and strong growth, fertilize the rose in early spring and after the first bloom with special rose fertilizer. A layer of mulch helps keep the soil moist and nutritious.
