About The Lark Ascending (Ausursula)

Rosa ‘The Lark Ascending’ is a true poetry in bloom. This David Austin rose enchants with its medium-sized, semi-double flowers that appear in generous clusters, sometimes up to fifteen per stem. The soft blend of apricot and golden yellow creates a warm, almost glowing radiance, as if the sun itself has descended into your garden bed. Its open flower shape provides a natural, informal elegance and also attracts busy bees and other pollinators, bringing life to your garden. The subtle, refined scent of fresh tea with a gentle hint of myrrh invites close enjoyment without ever overpowering.

With its strong and healthy growth, ‘The Lark Ascending’ blooms richly from bottom to top and continues tirelessly throughout the entire season, from June well into autumn. It is perfect for borders, mixed plantings, or as a graceful, loose shrub. Thanks to its airy form and elegant appearance, it is also excellent as a cut flower, bringing a touch of natural beauty indoors. Its name, inspired by the famous musical piece, reflects the lightness and free movement this rose brings to your garden.

At Belle Époque Rose Nursery in Aalsmeer, we have cherished the art of rose growing for over 40 years. As a family business, we select and care for every rose, including ‘The Lark Ascending’, with unmatched passion and expertise. You are assured of a healthy, strong plant grown with love and sustainability, delivered directly from our nursery to your garden. Choose the proven quality and rich bloom of a Belle Époque rose.

Care & Plants
Plant bare-root roses between October and April, and potted roses throughout the year, as long as the ground is not frozen. Ensure a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil and plant the rose deep enough so that the graft union (swelling) is just below the soil surface. Maintain a planting distance of about 60-80 cm for a solitary effect or closer together for a dense border.
Prune ‘The Lark Ascending’ in early spring (February-March), once the worst frost has passed. Remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches and cut back the remaining branches to 3-5 buds above the ground. Remove faded flowers throughout the season to encourage the formation of new buds and extend the blooming period.
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first year after planting. Fertilize your rose three times a year with special rose fertilizer: in early spring, after the first bloom, and in August. A layer of mulch around the base helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
