Rose Emily Bronte was bred by David Austin and named by The Brontë Society to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of author Emily Brontë. Emily Brontë is the sister of fellow novelists Charlotte and Anne, also from this renowned literary family. Emily's only novel, Wuthering Heights, was first published in 1847, just a year before the author's untimely death, when she was only thirty years old.
Rosa 'Emily Brontë' (Ausearnshaw) produces rather unusual, soft apricot pink flowers, opening to reveal apricot orange centers, surrounding a central button eye. The flower's petals are smallest at the center of the rose, with each concentric circle of petals increasing in size with each outward turn. The fully formed, open flowers have a fairly flat character and form beautiful rosettes.
David Austin Roses describes Rosa 'Emily Brontë' as a very floriferous rose, which blooms almost continuously, from early summer to autumn.
Rosa 'Emily Brontë' forms a fairly tall, upright and bushy shrub, which is not as tall or as large as a shrub to make it difficult to fit into the garden. Rosa 'Emily Brontë' grows to a height of 1.4 m and a width of 1.3 m, depending of course on your soil type and the growing conditions in your garden.
