Bare root Roses Plants: Step-by-step Guide for the Open Ground

Blote Wortel Rozen Planten: Stapsgewijze Handleiding voor de Volle Grond - Belle Epoque

Bare root Preparation Begin by placing the roots of your bare root roses in a bucket of cold water before you start planting. This helps hydrate the roots and prepare them for their new environment.

Step 1: Dig a Planting Hole Loosen the soil well with a spade and dig a sufficiently large hole. Make sure the hole is wide enough so the roots can lie freely without being folded. The depth should be such that the graft union (where the large side shoots begin) is about 5 cm below the ground. This prevents wild growth and protects the rose from frost.

Step 2: Add Garden Soil With your other hand, add 3 to 4 handfuls of garden soil or rose soil into the planting hole.

Step 3: Press Down Soil Firmly press the soil with your foot so that the soil closes nicely around the fine roots of the plant.

Step 4: Water Water the rose well so the root becomes nicely moist. Repeat this especially during dry periods, except when it is freezing.
